Iker Casillas: the key treatment after suffering a heart attack, explained by experts
Madrid, May 1 (EFE) .- José Luis Zamorano, vice president of the European Society of Cardiology and Head of Cardiology Service at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid, said Wednesday that the key to the future of a recovery of a patient with a myocardial infarction "is a fast and effective treatment".
Dr. Zamorano, who did not want to delve into the Iker Casillas case when he did not know the details, did reflect in general on this illness, which he exhaustively reflects in his website where he opens a new path in medical dissemination, in the knowledge of the cardiological patient about his illness and the bases of the doctor-patient relationship.
Zamorano pointed to being questioned by the genesis of an acute myocardial infarction that "the heart has three coronary arteries that embrace the heart like an ice clamp, the infarction occurs when one of those arteries is completely occluded and oxygen stops coming to a part of the heart, the nutrient stops coming and there is a necrosis, the cell death of a part of the heart. It is essential to immediately try to open the artery to restore the arrival of oxygen to the heart and that the damage is as small as possible " , points out Dr. José Luis Zamorano.
"We open to the artery so that the necessary blood flow is restored, if the treatment is effective, the effect can soon be recovered and the patient can continue his normal life with controls and age successfully, but we need rapid treatment," insists the Dr. Zamorano.
For his part, Dr. Antonio López Farré, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine at the Complutense University, explained to Efe that a catheterization , the intervention to which Iker Casillas has been submitted in Oporto, "is a diagnostic test done in the heart to determine if there is obstruction in a coronary artery , a catheter is inserted, a contrast is infused and it is seen in the image if there is a narrowing ".
"Now, what do you ask me about Iker Casillas, his future? It depends, you have to know the type of heart attack, how it has been and what part of the heart has been affected, depending on these parameters, it will have greater or lesser consequences and its relevance will be greater or less, "says Lopez Farré.
The Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas was admitted on Wednesday in a hospital in Oporto after suffering an acute myocardial infarction during training, although he is stable and his heart problem was solved.
Porto, the Portuguese club where he has played since 2015, said in a statement that the player is admitted to the Oporto CUF Hospital, but "he is fine, stable and with the heart problem resolved."
The 37-year-old Spanish goalkeeper suffered a heart attack during the morning training session of the Portuguese team at the PortoGaia Sports Training and Training Center, which had to be interrupted to provide assistance.
The "dragons" prepared the game that they will play on Saturday against the Desportivo das Aves of the Portuguese League, a competition in which they fight to be champions and from which three days remain.
Oporto also has the Portuguese Cup in play, whose final will be played against Sporting de Portugal.
Iker Casillas, who turns 38 on May 20, lives his fourth season at Oporto, with which he has won a Liga and a Supercopa de Portugal, after playing from 1999 to 2015 in the first team of Real Madrid.
