The basis of this "National and International Competition for architectural and urban ideas for remodeling the Centenario Stadium and its surroundings" are already being discussed by the competent authorities, he said during his speech Mario Romano, director of the Administrative Committee of Official Field (CAFO ), responsible for managing the site.

Thus, the call is already in the hands of the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) and the Municipality of Montevideo, explained Romano, who explained that during the next four months, and once the bases are established, the call for participation national and international architects could occur in a period of one year.

"We are what the authorities can transform, correct and change, and from there be absolutely equipped to make the call next year and go a very difficult road but hopefully have a significant return," he said.

In this context, the president of the AUF and interim president of CONMEBOL, Wilmar Valdez, said that the renovation of the Centenary will be "a key driver" to fulfill the dream with all Uruguayans to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first World 2030 organisation.

"Hopefully that might be holding the World Cup together with our friends from Argentina , with whom we have been talking for a while on this issue. There is no doubt that there will be a very important event organized by FIFA at this stage because will commemorate 100 years since the first World Cup, "he said.

Similarly, he added that beyond the renovations to be made in the primary enclosure must be to preserve their historical value.

"When the Centennial begin this transformation will surely get the attention not only of those who are accustomed to come to the stadium, but worldwide," said Valdez.

The Estadio Centenario was designed by architect Juan Antonio Scasso and opened for World Cup 1930, it was conceived according to the latest techniques of the time and executed in record time.
