A pink tide formed by some 7,000 athletes have taken today the streets of Logroño during the celebration of the III Women's Race, which aims to raise funds for research against childhood cancer .
At the exit were present, among others, the directors of Social Policy, Family, Equality and Justice, Conrado Escobar, and Health, Mary Martin; the mayor of Logroño, Concepción Gamarra; and the president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) in La Rioja, Divine Lopez.
With a festive atmosphere, brokerages, wearing pink shirts, have defied the rain that fell just before the start of the test, which has a distance of 5 kilometers and can be completed running or walking.
In this edition 7,000 women have signed up, a thousand more than last year, and this figure could be exceeded, but the organization had to limit the number of entries by security issues.
Proceeds from the test, in which each participant contributes 10 euros, will be dedicated to pay the second third of the budget of a research project on childhood cancer on immunodeficiency, leukemia and lymphoma, which the AECC allocates a total of 150,000 euros .
This project, already raising the second edition of the Women's Race was dedicated, develops in the Hospital La Paz in Madrid, lasts for three years, began in 2015 and is run by the coordinator of Clinical Immunology service of the health center, Eduardo López-Granados.
Before departure, which have been released pink balloons and triggered confetti same color, the president of the AECC in La Rioja has acknowledged he was "very excited" by the public support that has been obtained in this initiative solidarity.
The mayor of Logroño, who has been involved running, stressed that all participants share their solidarity towards the same "cause", which is the importance of research in the fight against cancer, "a disease in which no one is alone ".
