Barcelona left the gala Laureus 2016 Awards with a bittersweet taste, as the Blaugrana managed to be imposed in any of the two disciplines for which it was nominated, but Johan Cruyff, FC Barcelona emblem, recienemente deceased was honoured.
Lionel Messi was left without getting the award for best male athlete and ended up falling into the hands of Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic , which is the third time that the world No. 1 in the ATP rankings gets the prize.
The Blaugrana were also nominees in the category of best team after the treble last season but ended up yielding to the selection of New Zealand Rugby , better known as the All Blacks , the award takes after winning as world champions .
The organization also delivered the 'Sportsmanship' award posthumously to Johan Cruyff . His son Jordi received the award and delivered an emotional speech: "It is a very emotional moment for me. With Carles Puyol ( in charge of handing the trophy) and Ruud Gullit (responsible for submission) for being here. And thanks to Laureus, also on behalf of our family. I'd rather not be here today, but my father left us. It was an amazing and energetic person. As a child I can only say I am very proud of him. "
