The Royal Spanish Football Federation announced Thursday the hiring of Julen Lopetegui as new coach of Spain . The Basque coach will be the heir of Vicente Del Bosque , who decided not to renew his contract after eight years in office.
Lopetegui, who began his career in the dugout in the Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid Castilla, and worked for some years as coach of the federation between 2010 and 2014, which was coach of the Under-19 categories, Sub- 20 and U-21. In this journey he won the European Under-19 in 2011 and the Under-21 in 2013, year in which also participated in the U-20.
After passing through the lower echelons of 'The Red', former goalkeeper of Real Madrid and Barcelona he went to Porto , where he led the Portuguese team for a year and a half, making the Portuguese reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA champions league.
Lopetegui debut on the bench will occur on September 1 when 'Red' faces in a friendly in Brussels Belgium . Also, its debut in an official match will be against Liechtenstein on September 5 in the first game of qualifying for the World Cup Russia
