Edgardo Bauza Martino replaces the front of the Argentina selection

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced the appointment of Edgardo Bauza as new coach, ending nearly a month of rumors and uncertainty following the resignation of Gerardo Martino.

Confirmation of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) came shortly after the Sao Paulo club he served Bauza announced his departure. "Bauza is the technical director of the selection (...) On Friday comes to Argentina," announced to the press Armando Perez, president of the AFA.

The main objective of the technician will qualify for the World ell albiceleste to Russia 2018, with a team that initially will be without its biggest star Lionel Messi, who quit the national team after losing the final of the Copa America Centenario.

"We must try to convince Messi to be in the selection, but it needs time and should not be rushed," Bauza said late last month when his name sounded like possible coach of Argentina.

Bauza will take the reins of the selection twice world champion after leading the Sao Paulo, with which he advanced to the semifinals of the last edition of the Copa Libertadores, the main club tournament in South America.

"Sao Paulo Edgardo Bauza announces that reported having received and accepted the offer of the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to assume command of the national team, so he will leave office in the Tricolor (...) 'Paton' is farewell to the club after eight months of work ", he had announced the Brazilian club said in a statement.

Argentina is third in the CONMEBOL qualifiers with 11 points, two of Uruguay and Ecuador in qualifying position for Russia 2018 when 12 games remaining to the end of qualifying.

The 'Paton' Bauza, an emblematic goalkeeper Rosario Central in his playing, achieved international recognition after winning the Copa Libertadores with Liga Deportiva Universitaria Ecuador in 2008 and with San Lorenzo de Almagro of Argentina in 2014. None of the two clubs had won the renowned title until the arrival of coach.

"If we look with optimism (the contract with Bauza) is to Russia (...) The first thing we had to solve was the technician," said Perez, who had also had contacts with coaches like Jorge Sampaoli, Ramon Diaz, Miguel Angel Russo and Mauricio Pochettino.

The economic and managerial crisis hitting the AFA, forcing the intervention of FIFA itself with the appointment of Perez at the head of an interim committee almost leaves the South American country unrepresented football team at the Olympic Games begin this week.

With the resignation of Martino, he had to resort to exinternacional Julio Olarticoechea as coach to travel to Brazil, as it was the only coach with the AFA contract.
