Messi greets the 'Little' Pareto for Olympic gold

Soccer star Lionel Messi congratulated Sunday judoka Paula Pareto, who entered the history of Argentine sport by becoming the first woman to win the South American country a gold medal.

"Congratulations to the Peque to get the first gold medal for Argentina , it was worth so many years of effort!" Messi wrote in a message through Facebook.

'Little' Pareto, 30 years and that in 2008 Beijing had won a bronze medal, defeated South Korea's Jeong Bo-Kyeong in the final on Saturday and won gold in the category of -48 kg.

This was the first gold medal for Latin America in the Rio 2016 Games.

"Would that be the first of many for our country in these Olympic! Games," said Messi, holder of a gold medal achieved in the Beijing Olympics 2008.

In judo, Argentina has jumped on the Olympic podium twice and both with Paula Pareto, who also won the world title in Astana-2015.
