Star skier Lindsey Vonn, 31, took a major tumble down the slopes in Soldeu El-Tarter, Andorra, on February 27 during a Women’s World Cup super-G event, sustaining serious injuries to her knee. Poor Lindsey! She was just 50 seconds through an incredibly impressive run, when she lost balance by leaning too far to the left and tumbling far down the slope on her left hip. Omg! Medical aids on the sidelines rushed to her service after she laid crumpled on her side, immobile. “[Lindsey] was taken off the mountain on a sled by ski patrol for evaluation,” the U.S. Ski Association said in a statement. “She is presently being evaluated to determine if she sustained any injuries.”
The American team’s spokeswoman, Megan Harrod, later confirmed to the Associated Press that the athlete had, in fact, injured her knee, but there were no details at that time about the nature of the injury. Lindsey was fully conscious throughout this horrible ordeal!
The race was delayed for 10 minutes while the medical team took her off the track; Federica Brignone of Italy won the race after Lindsey’s exit. It was a tragic injury for Lindsey, as she was leading by far in the Women’s World Cup! She’s already won nine races this season, finally overcoming another injury that left her off the slopes.
