The Ministry of Justice and Police of Switzerland confirmed the arrest of two leaders of the FIFA occurred this morning in the city of Zurich, where last May seven other senior representatives of the organisation were arrested at the request of the US Justice on charges of corruption.
New detainees will be kept in custody awaiting a decision is taken in relation to respective US extradition requests against them.
The Swiss Ministry did not disclose the names of the two prisoners today, but according to US media one is the Honduran Alfredo Hawit, president of the Central American Football Confederation (CONCACAF) and FIFA vice-president.
The other detainee would Paraguayan Juan Angel Napout, also FIFA vice-president and president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
The US Justice accused of taking bribes rising "millions of dollars" in exchange for the sale of broadcasting rights for football events played in Latin America and qualifying matches for World.
According to information provided by the US authorities to the Swiss Ministry, some of these crimes were agreed and prepared in US territory and the payments would have been made through banks in that country.
