The mayor of Rio de Janeiro today announced it has purchased 547,000 tickets for the Olympics and Paralympics for gifts to officials and public school students.
Ticket will entail an expenditure of 5 million reals (1.4 billion dollars) of public money, as announced responsible for the Mayor at a press conference.
Specifically, the municipal entity acquired about 47,000 tickets for the Olympic Games and Paralympic 500,000, to be held in the Brazilian city the months of August and September.
Recipients of tickets will be 137,000 civil servants, 392,000 schoolchildren, who will be required to have good grades, and 18,000 poor.
The Brazilian Paralympic Committee President Andrew Parsons said the idea of distributing tickets is a measure which is intended to "engage once the population in the Games."
Ticket sales the Olympics are going slower than expected by the organization.
According to the latest balance of the organizing committee, has sold about 67% of the 6 million tickets for the Olympic Games and about a third of which have been offered for the Paralympics.
