Ronaldo will send help to his hometown of Funchal, surrounded by fire

The footballer Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he will assist his native Funchal, the capital of the Portuguese archipelago of Madeira, by the terrible fire near the city and has caused at least three deaths, plus the evacuation of a thousand people and hundreds of hospitalizations.

According to the Portuguese television channel SIC Noticias, Ronaldo spoke to the Madeira regional president, Miguel Albuquerque, and offered financial aid, yet unquantified, to alleviate the ravages of fire that ravaged part of Funchal.

According to the official, still provisional, because of the flames balance have been killed three members of one family, a thousand people were evacuated and some 300 were hospitalized, mostly for smoke inhalation.

In material terms, the fire has destroyed dozens of homes and a shopping center and a luxury hotel.

Ronaldo, who was a couple of weeks ago in Funchal to inaugurate a hotel and expand its museum, it is natural the neighbourhood of Santo António, upper part of the city, where the fire originated.
