Terry believes the signing of Mourinho is "fantastic" for United

Chelsea captain John Terry England defender has defended the appointment of Jose Mourinho as new coach of Manchester United, and assured that his arrival is "fantastic" for the whole of northern England.

Terry, 35, who played under the Portuguese coach in two steps Mourinho southwest London, said it was "the best coach" he has had.

"It is fantastic news for Manchester United. I'm sure that fans and players will be happy, because, as I said several times, is the best coach for which I have ever played," said English, in a statement the British broadcaster Sky Sports.

"The way it ended at Chelsea was somewhat unfortunate, but I wish him well because he's a great guy. It will be a very important person at Manchester United, I'm sure of that," Terry continued.

Mourinho was named last Friday new tenant on the bench at Old Trafford, replacing Dutchman Louis van Gaal. The Portuguese coach has signed a contract for the next three seasons.

Another premiere club coach in the 2016/2017 campaign will be Chelsea, who, after the departure of Guus Hiddink, will welcome the Italian Antonio Conte, coach of his country to the European Championship in France 2016.

"I am looking forward to working with the new coach. It will be a very exciting time and hopefully we can improve on the disappointing last year," reported Terry.

"In a big club like Chelsea, like all the other big teams, you want to always win titles and be in all competitions. This season we did, so we have to learn and be competitive again," he said the former England international.

In addition, the central veteran praised the arrival of great technicians to the Premier League, as Pep Guardiola (Manchester City) or the aforementioned Mourinho and Conte.

"I think that's very good for English football. Not only for what he achieved last year Claudio Ranieri with Leicester but now the arrival of José and Pep to Manchester and Conte Chelsea. There will be a great fight between technical which aims to be very interesting, "said Terry.
