Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were honored Monday with the Laureus Awards that distinguish the best athletes of the year at a gala held in Berlin and honored the memory of Dutch soccer star Johan Cruyff, who died the month past.
Tennis was the winner in a ceremony held at the 'Palais am Funkturm Messe' Berlin and awarded as the most outstanding athletes to the two 'first rackets' world.

Djokovic, 28, picked up personally in the German capital an award he also won, but could not get last year in Shanghai ( China ). The younger of the Williams, 34, four times Olympic champion -a single and three doubles with her sister Venus has won 21 Grand Slam titles. It is therefore not surprising that being awarded the Laureus World Sportsman for the third time after 2003 and 2010. In 2007 he was given the 'Best Return'.
Serena was chosen ahead of the Ethiopian athlete Genzebe Dibaba, who won last year, and the Austrian skier Anna Fenninger. He also beat the Jamaican athlete Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and two other Americans, swimmer Katie Ledecky footballer and Carli Lloyd .

The gala 'Oscar' sports was presented by actor Bill Murray , nominated for the Oscar for "Lost in Translation" in 2003; and world famous also for "Groundhog Day" ( "Groundhog Day") or "Ghostbusters" ( "Ghostbusters").
